Puppy Classes - More Information

A puppy class The course has been designed to build up the various exercises each week and to result in you having a dog which is a well behaved, family companion, who is more able to fit into your home environment, as well as being a pleasure to take for a walk in the park or to the shops. Puppies can attend as soon as your vet says they can go out after their vaccinations.

Each week you will be taught how to train your puppy (we teach owners, not dogs!), and your puppy will learn to socialize with other puppies and people in various situations.

Each week you will receive a homework sheet covering all the exercises you will have done. In addition there are notes to go with the short talks you will be given.

We hope that by learning more about your puppy's natural behaviour this will also help you to understand him better and prevent problems in the future.

During the course you will be teaching your puppy the following exercises:
  • Walking on lead without pulling.
  • To come when called.
  • Sit and Down - To enable you to have general control.
  • Handling - For use when the puppy is being groomed or examined by a vet.
  • Stay - To teach the puppy to remain in one place when told.
  • Having fun with your puppy - how to teach tricks, games to play etc.

The talks you will hear will cover the following topics:
  • WEEK 1 - How a dog learns.
  • WEEK 2 - The dog's role in the family.
  • WEEK 3 - Problems at home and outside.
  • WEEK 4 - Communication - understanding your puppy.
  • WEEK 5 - Neutering and general health care.
  • WEEK 6 - Dogs and the law. Owner responsibility and general topics.
The more training you do at home in short fun sessions with your puppy, the more you will achieve. Your training sheets will remind you of how to progress each exercise in stages over the weeks.
